Gandhi Ji’s Talisman

What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?

“I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him. Will he gain anything by it? Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?

Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away.”

Just sit relaxed close your eyes and imagine.

This poignant quote by Gandhi truly encapsulates the essence of empathy and service. It’s a powerful reminder of our interconnectedness and the importance of considering the impact of our actions on those less fortunate than ourselves.

The talisman, as Gandhi proposes, offers a guidepost for navigating life’s decisions. When our actions positively impact others, particularly those most in need, we not only elevate those around us but also elevate ourselves. This compassion-driven approach to life creates a ripple effect that reverberates far beyond our immediate circles.

I see poor and weak people each day. I have seen them struggling to achieve their survival in their daily lives.

In this Age of Capitalism, Gandi Ji, his ideas, and his concerned people, all are sidelined.
Today’s Indian state primarily looks theocratic, supported by profit based economic interests of elite businessmen.

What kind of empathy and help you are expecting for the poor when Parliament itself is 40% full of Criminals, Thieves and Murderers?
The Soul of Indian Democracy is dead replaced by favouritism, nepotism, and deep rooted corruption.

We are looking for uniformity in everything— race, income, political representation, religion, education, and culture.
“I think the first step our govt should take is to declare caste system and its practices illegal.” It’ll be a great help to end up poverty of poors & their exclusion from the govt & important state institutions.

    1. So true it’s nice to see your deep thinking about our society. Article 15 constitution of India says no discrimination on the ground of caste, race and religion. But our society still not thinking seriously about it.

Article 17 and 18 says abolition of untouchability. This whole problem resolved when people start doing intercaste marriage.

Thank for a deep meaning comment 🙏🥰

        Article 15, 17 and 18. How can I forget all this?😅😂😂
I’m not good at remembering articles from constitution. Though the ones you mentioned are basic.
It has been a long time studying all that. Will go through that, once!

I’m not into UPSC CSE anymore. I have switched to UGC NET and PhD.
Quality discussions are welcome irrespective what you prepare!

Thanks for sharing this important info, Shashwat!
