What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?
You don’t know whether you’re going to be born rich or poor, male or female, infirm or able-bodied, in the United States or India. All you know is that you get to take one ball out of a barrel with 5.8 billion balls in it. And that’s you.
Hard work creates the conditions for luck to flourish, while luck provides opportunities that hard work can capitalize on. So only hard work doesn’t make you sucessful it’s need luck in appropriate time. Similarly if luck is in your favour then you have to work hard to capitalise it.
Some people got sucess in 21 years, some 30, 40 and so on. I read a book of Morgan Housel ” the psychology of money” in this he described the sucess story of top billionaires of world. You clearly indentify the luck and risk factor very easily.
I grew up in that kind of surrounding environment since childhood, in which everyone told me that if I worked hard whether it’s study or any work, I would succeed. But over time, my belief changed. Not every unsuccessful person is stupid.

True wisdom success is a mix of hard work, timing, and the luck that life hands us.

Shashwat, your analysis of the hard work/luck dynamic is spot-on. They aren’t alternative paths; they are necessary partners. Your changed belief—that not every unsuccessful person is stupid—is a shift from a simple, comforting worldview to an honest, complex one.🙌

I agree – it’s neither luck or hard work alone but both – great post, Linda 🙂

Growing up we hear, finish your studies and you will be successful. Alot finished their studies but couldn’t find a job so ended up studying more for masters. Some people who haven’t really finished going to school and earn a degree but are earning.
Is success only measured by having all what one’s hearts desire is? Materially? Or just being able to live, passionate about what you do and being able to take carr of one’s self?
I guess it always boils down to perspective and living. Being happy about what you do no matter what.
