College farewell

It’s sad to believe that one day you share last moment with someone you love and you won’t even know it. You won’t realise that day your last chance to say all the things you always wanted to say. You want to apologize to some people for your mistakes and you want to forgive some people.

My graduation was about to complete, I had to give a speech in the farewell function and had to thank the organisers and teaching staff on behalf of my batch mates. We had come here with so much hope and expectation, with so much energy. We learnt so much, became such a better person. Today I had to describe the entire journey.

I went on the stage and started the speech. After 5-7 minutes there were tears in my eyes, now I was not able to utter the words. I stopped for a while, drank water and started speaking again. But once again, tears started flowing from my eyes and this time I ended my speech at that moment. Because I knew that I would not be able to complete my speech at this moment.

I think my decision to give a speech at the farewell function was probably wrong because I had the illusion that I am strong enough to handle such a situation easily. 4 years were about to end and everyone was going to move forward with their careers. This college campus and this atmosphere will be left here. After this, there will be only a few special friends with whom we will keep meeting again.

“Though we may part ways, the memories we’ve made will always keep us connected.”

Ah this is a lovely post! When I gave my first professional speech in a lecture theatre I was almost paralysed with fear. I’ve never been so petrified. I’m sure everyone was feeling the same way as you on that day.

This is such a heartfelt and moving piece! 🌸✨ You captured the raw emotions of parting, the bittersweet reality of endings, and the beauty of memories that stay with us long after we move on. Your honesty about breaking down during the farewell speech makes it even more powerful — it shows just how deeply those years and relationships touched you. 💖

This is a beautiful and emotional piece. Your words are so relatable. It’s tough to say goodbye, especially when you have so many things you want to express. It’s okay to show your emotions. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability.

Oh wow, this is such a poignant moment . Your description of the bittersweet emotions that come with a farewell—the nostalgia, the gratitude, the sadness of knowing you might not see everyone again—is really powerful.

It’s okay that you couldn’t finish your speech. It shows that you had a genuine connection with your college life and with the people you met there. Emotions are not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of authenticity. They show that your heart was full.

Nice analogy you use to connect your feelings about graduation with the end of one’s life.
