Write your guide to setting healthy boundaries in relationships.
For a self-respecting person, accepting a favor is in itself a humiliating experience. The situation becomes even worse if the person doing the favor displays arrogance in their behavior.
If you wish to do me a favor, go ahead; but do not ask me to sacrifice my self-respect for it. It is better to forgo the favor altogether than to lose one’s self-respect.
Doing a favor for someone is an art, the art of doing it in such a way that the recipient does not even realize it. Maintaining a relationship essentially means engaging in an exchange, whether it involves material things or emotions.
If you want to keep relationships healthy and long-lasting, boundaries are essential. Healthy boundaries are the limits and rules you set to protect your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
Which promote mutual respect, prevent resentment, and encourage autonomy. Instead of building walls, clear boundaries provide a safe framework that allows both partners or individuals to thrive.

I always enjoy your insights. “Doing a favor for someone is an art, the art of doing it in such a way that the recipient does not even realize it.” There may be some discretion in what is a favor and what is a gift. Should not the latter possibly receive a thanks, especially if a card is involved, and possibly in other instances?

If you are making a donation, you are a noble person. However, relationships involve give-and-take; this should not be insulting.

This is a profound reflection on the delicate balance between kindness, dignity, and human connection. I particularly appreciated your insight that true generosity is offered without diminishing the recipient’s self-respect. The emphasis on healthy boundaries is equally important—relationships flourish not through obligation or control, but through mutual respect, empathy, and the freedom to remain true to oneself. A thoughtful reminder that preserving dignity is not selfish; it is the foundation of meaningful and lasting relationships. 🌿✨

Sir who wants to be beholden to anyone because often, one has to pay many times more in interest. But sometimes, the situation is such that one has to accept a favor.

A thoughtful and important guide.
Healthy boundaries are not about distance or pride, but about respect knowing where your dignity stands and ensuring it is not compromised in the name of any favor or relationship. True kindness is given without arrogance, and true strength lies in protecting your peace while still allowing meaningful connections to grow. 🤍
